Happy Chinese New Year

This Year of the Tigress born babe whole-heartedly welcomes the yang to her yin, Year of the Water Dragon 2012! Fueled forward by Mars in Virgo for the next 8 months, I am already feeling the intensely powerful energy of this union, and am ready to enthusiastically embrace the clean slate that today’s new moon in Aquarius also ushers forth. There’s so much positively bold, fresh energy on tap for all the signs of the zodiac, it’s the perfect time to celebrate by putting flame to candle, pen to paper, and writing out some clearly worded intentions about what you want to manifest in this next cycle around the sun.

Whatever your goals, the stars encourage you to practice flexibility and go with the flow. To really seal in those intentions, do a simple blessed water ritual today. Anyone familiar with Dr. Masaru Emoto’s work may know that writing positive words (such as happiness, creativity, peace, or gratitude) on a cold water glass and saying loving prayers will charge the water molecules with beautiful energies. Once you’ve inscribed your glass, slowly drink the water in, envisioning it cleansing away any impurities, old thought patterns, and bad habits that no longer serve you. Imagine yourself bathed in white healing light, radiating love and joy, and open to the continuous flow of love and blessings.

Kuan Yin, the supreme Goddess of China, is a wonderful deity to keep in your thoughts and prayers this year. I love this image of her as she rides in on a water dragon, ushering in greater awareness and consciousness for a more enlightened humanity. Mother of Mercy and Compassion, she radiates the perfect fusion of love and wisdom, and through her elegance and gentleness, offers healing to all. Kuan Yin personifies unconditional love. She gently but powerfully invites you to open to the pure stream of love and compassion, and yield your heart fully. She reminds you that sometimes subtle power is called for, and to offer mercy and gentleness to those in your life.

And finally, do check out this stunningly gorgeous performance piece, celebrating the goddess in all her golden glory. No matter how many times I see it, I’m always filled with total awe and reverence:

Electronic Waste Recycling Program Expansion

In 2011, the LES Ecology Center collected 252 tons by offering 28 e-waste recylcing events. At nearly every event, they are asked, “Where can I bring my e-waste when there isn’t an event?” So, they’re now working on finding a permanent drop-off location where New Yorkers can get rid of e-waste, on their own schedule.

In hope that the community might be able to steer them in the direction of viable leads, we are re-posting their request for that perfect warehouse to act as a permanent drop-off site, where they can also offer reuse and job training opportunities. If you (or anyone you know) has a passion for technological tinkering, a penchant for refurbishing, or a burning desire to help the LESEC make local reuse of electronics a reality, send them an email ASAP, and contribute to making electronics recycling in NYC easier than ever for everyone!
